One of the first questions many of our patients ask is: How much does it cost to remove varicose veins – and will my insurance cover it? The good news: in many cases, the costs are partially or fully covered, especially when there is a medical reason for the treatment. At Angioclinic Zurich, we value transparency and fairness, especially when it comes to financial planning.
The actual cost depends on several factors – such as which treatment method is used (e.g., laser or sclerotherapy), how advanced your varicose veins are, and whether one or more sessions are needed. During your initial consultation, we’ll assess the scope of your treatment and prepare a personalized cost estimate if requested.

There are two primary minimally invasive procedures for removing varicose veins: endovenous laser therapy and sclerotherapy. Laser therapy is typically used for larger trunk veins, while sclerotherapy is ideal for smaller branches or spider veins.
The cost for laser treatment usually starts at around CHF 1,800 per leg, depending on the extent of the condition. In more complex cases, or if multiple veins are involved, additional sessions or combination treatments may be appropriate.
Sclerotherapy for spider veins or small varicose veins is generally less expensive. Prices for these treatments typically range from CHF 250 to CHF 400 per session. To achieve a consistent cosmetic result, several sessions may be required over a few weeks.
Most importantly: you will always be clearly informed about all costs in advance. No hidden surprises.
Whether your basic or supplemental insurance covers the cost depends largely on whether there is a medical necessity for treatment.
If you suffer from symptoms such as heavy legs, swelling, skin changes, or nighttime cramps, your condition is usually classified as medically necessary. In these cases, Swiss health insurance often contributes to the treatment costs.
For purely cosmetic treatments – like removing spider veins without discomfort – coverage is less common. Even in these cases, we’ll advise you thoroughly and help you determine whether it’s worth submitting a cost estimate to your insurer.
If you have supplemental insurance, it may also cover part of the costs – sometimes even for aesthetic procedures, depending on your policy. If you're unsure, we recommend contacting your insurer in advance. We’re also happy to support you by providing a written quote for reimbursement.

We believe transparency builds trust. After your consultation, you’ll receive a detailed cost plan that outlines all services and potential additional charges.
This way, you’ll know exactly what to expect – whether for the initial assessment, treatment itself, or follow-up care. If needed, we’ll also walk you through different treatment options at various price points, depending on what’s medically and financially right for you.
And if you’re paying privately, we can discuss installment payment or flexible financing options, so your treatment fits your budget.
Not sure whether your insurance will pay? Wondering how many sessions you might need? Just get in touch with us – we’re happy to answer all your questions and help you with any paperwork.
Our goal is simple: we want you to feel fully informed and confident – both medically and financially. Because great care starts with trust.
NEW: In Switzerland, basic insurance generally covers the costs of laser or radiofrequency treatment since 2016! After your examination, you will receive a binding cost estimate to submit to your insurance company.
We often receive inquiries about how much a spider vein treatment costs. Providing a price quote without knowing you and without an examination is not serious. It could be a one-time 10-minute treatment costing CHF 120 for a small finding, or two or three sessions lasting up to an hour for legs covered with spider veins with deep sources, costing more than CHF 800 each. The costs depend on the number of areas to be treated, the anatomical complexity, and the time and material expenditure. The safest way: Show us your spider veins and varicose veins, and we can give you a tailored and binding cost estimate.
In treatment, there are enormous differences in quality. We will explain what is important for you.
